"I cannot be hypnotized."

Fact: It is a common misconception that some people are more susceptible to hypnosis than others. In reality hypnosis is a natural state of mind that everyone enters into several times a day. Just before falling asleep, several times during sleep and upon waking in the morning are some of those times. Many people enter environmental hypnosis while watching TV or a movie, reading a good book and sometimes even driving. Anyone who wants to be hypnotized can be.

"A hypnotist can take control of my mind".

Fact: No one can control your mind, unless you allow them to do so. Under hypnosis the hypnotherapist gives mutually agreed upon suggestions based on your therapeutic goals and objectives. At no point during hypnosis does a person lose control of their mind. If a suggestion is heard that the person does not understand or agree with, the subconscious will automatically reject it.

"A hypnotist can make me do or say something I don't want to."

Fact: While in a hypnotic state, a person is still in complete control of their mind and body. Unlike falling asleep, many people experience a heightened sense of awareness. A person is in control of their body and mind at all times during hypnosis.

"Hypnosis is like being asleep and when I wake up I will have no memory of what happened."

Fact: Hypnosis is not an unconscious state like sleep or anesthesia. Most people feel a heightened sense of awareness and focus. A person is completely aware of the process at all times.

"Hypnosis is a Miracle Cure."

Fact: While hypnosis is a relatively quick method of making permanent personal improvements, there is no such thing as a miracle cure. Each individual makes progress at their own pace. Much like exercise, the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it
